White Men “White-Mening” Again: A Response to Senator Manchin’s Refusal to Support Climate, Justice, and Clean Energy Investments

Washington, D.C. – Late last night, white men were being white men again, and actively supported the effort to pollute and destroy the planet.  Senator Manchin and his big polluter homeboys and side pieces in Congress came together to completely annihilate critical investments in climate, justice, clean energy, and health that are life and death choices for Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities. We are literally suffering from record breaking heatwaves across the country and these “good ol’ boys” put personal profits over humanity.

But are we surprised?  Nah, but we are sick of the $3!+ though!  White men (across all age groups) have consistently been at the helm of global destruction with mass ecological terrorism for centuries.  It is pure evil to know how the climate crisis is killing Black mothers and Black babies more than any other group in the country, and this high profiled charlatan Manchin and his crew give not one solitary damn.

Black mothers and infants are harmed by climate change at a much higher rate than the population at large. Regarding climate change impacts on Black maternal health, for example, “a 2017 study found that for every 10° increase in temperature in California, there is an average increase in preterm delivery of 8.6%, but for Black women that increase is almost 15%.”  Source

In cities like Flint, MI who will forever deal with the lifelong, irreversible damage caused by the WHITE MANMADE Flint Water Crisis, extreme heat and increased rain (flooding) will exacerbate already existing public health issues. More Black women will be at risk of miscarriage or even worse, death.

We need for Uncle Joe to flex on Manchin and his posse and bring forth every ounce of executive power and influence to maintain his word to the American people to ACT ON CLIMATE by cutting climate pollution in half by 2030.  Black and Latinx Millennials and GenZ are not backing down.
