#TimeToAct on Climate: New Day Digital Rally

On Wednesday, February 24, CAC hosted a #TimetoAct on Climate: New Day Digital rally with frontline speakers across the climate community.

The digital engagement of the rally garnered nearly 2.28 million impressions and a reach of 856,0000 through the hashtags #ActOnClimate, #TimeToAct, and #ClimateChangemakers. Justin Onwenu and Latricea Adams previewed the rally by doing a live interview on WDET. The digital rally’s recording and content will be featured throughout the year, including on CAC’s facebook, as part of CAC’s #ClimateChangemakers series, Climate Friday content and on the speaker’s social media channels.

The digital rally was moderated by Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Founder and President of the Hip Hop Caucus. Featured speakers included:  Mustafa Santiago Ali, Vice President of Environmental Justice, Climate, and Community Revitalization, National Wildlife Federation;  Yoca Arditi-Rocha CEO, The CLEO Institute; Katharina Maier, Organizer and environmental activist, Fridays for Future;  Justin Onwenu, Organizer, Sierra Club Michigan Chapter; Wally Mazon, Organizer, Sunrise Movement; and Latricea Adams, Founding-CEO and President, Black Millennials for Flint. The rally also featured a video, Redlining & the Climate Crisis: Racism by Designfrom the YEARS Project.

The rally speakers addressed the intersections of our existing crises: climate, environmental and racial injustice, the economic recession, and COVID recovery, while explicitly expressing a need for reform to address environmental injustices. The moderator and rally speakers highlighted new opportunities we have working with a pro-climate action administration and ways the climate community can make significant strides to achieve environmental justice and climate action including through President Biden’s Build Back Better plan.
