Shop Talk North Memphis: The State of Water Quality in the Black Community

ShopTalks promote innovative environmental justice education and political advocacy by bringing awareness to and educating BIPOC communities on prominent EJ issues, specifically lead poisoning and exposure. The content includes cross-cutting concepts between policy, environmental justice, mental health, reproductive justice (including men) workforce development, agriculture, and economic development. This particular ShopTalk will focus on The State of Water Quality in the Black Community in lieu of World Water Day 2023.

A 2019 Report called Watered Down Justice presented an analysis of EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) data that confirms there is unequal access to safe drinking water, based most strongly on race, a scientific conclusion that mirrors the lived experience of people of color and low-income residents in the United States.
