Visit: sph.umd.edu/2018EJsymposium

This free event brings together community activists, local legislators, nonprofit organizations, and environmental health researchers for an in-depth examination of environmental justice and health disparities issues affecting our region.

With 35+ panels and discussions, you can learn about recent successes, such as the fight to stop an incinerator from being built in Baltimore’s Curtis Bay neighborhood, to ongoing struggles, such as the the effort to safeguard air quality, affordable housing and jobs in DC’s Buzzard Point, as well as opportunities to take action using science in service to the health of communities.

Keynote speaker Destiny Watford, the 2016 North America Goldman Prize Winner, fought alongside her Baltimore community to stop the nation’s largest trash-burning incinerator from being built in her neighborhood. She continues to fight for her community’s future by creating a community land trust to perform truly democratic community-driven development in her neighborhood.
