Memphis, TN– On June 10, 2023 our beloved Memphis champion for environmental justice, Mrs. Doris Bradshaw, transitioned to rest with the ancestors. Mrs. Doris Bradshaw was most known for her decades long fight against the Army Defense Depot and a host of other environmental injustices and racism that impact majority Black communities in the City of Memphis. Mrs. Bradshaw has inspired generations of up and coming environmental justice organizations as she was most recently the recipient of Black Millennials 4 Flint’s inaugural Black History in Green Award for Black History Month 2023. The BM4F tribe sends prayers for healing during this extremely difficult time to the entire Bradshaw family with special love to our close friend in the movement, Mrs. Doris Bradshaw’s daughter, Marquita Bradshaw, who made history as the first Black woman to win a U.S. Senate primary in the State of Tennessee in 2020–certainly making her mother and the entire Memphis community proud by maintaining a legacy of community activism and resilience.
