Black Millennials 4 Flint’s Statement on the Build Back Better Framework

Today, October 28, 2021, President Biden and Congressional leaders outlined a framework for the Build Back Better Act (BBBA), a transformative bill that will make the largest investments in history to address climate change. This framework serves as an accountability tool and an agreement to the American people to hold true to the BBBA which centers environmental justice with investment in frontline communities, historic investments in climate action and clean energy. The BBBA will create jobs and drive economic opportunity while cutting the carbon pollution that causes climate change and disproportionately impacts communities of color.

“What a powerful day to introduce the Build Back Better Framework as 30 years ago Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people finalized the sacred 17 Principles of Environmental Justice in Washington, DC. To see the Biden administration’s accountability in year 1 to the Justice40 Initiative by supporting critical community capacity building, including grants to environmental justice communities, is cause for celebration, but also time for young Black, Latinx & Indigenous EJ leaders to roll up ourselves and carry the torch handed down from our ancestors and elders. We have a moral obligation to see this framework and plan implemented with fidelity. Forever forward, backwards never.”
