If you’ve ever experienced or witnessed an asthma attack, then you know how terrifying it can be to gasp for air. Our nation’s federal leaders need to support transitioning our country to a 100% clean energy economy to provide relief to the communities in cities like Flint, MI, Memphis, TN, Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD that are breathing toxic air pollution.

Requiring net-zero carbon pollution will help address the significant health disparities that communities of color, and other vulnerable communities, disproportionately face. Black children across the country are more than four times as likely to be hospitalized for an asthma attack than their white peers. They’re also ten times more likely to die from that asthma attack. Latinx children, compared to white children, are twice as likely to die from an asthma attack.

That’s why our nation’s federal leaders must address the pollution that is harming our communities, not obstruct the transition to cleaner sources of energy that’s already begun at the state and local level.

Our health is on the line, and African American & Latinx Millennials understand that supporting a 100% clean energy economy builds off the momentum created by local leaders and businesses, improving public health outcomes and access to economic opportunities for our community.
